Warfighter Appreciation Program
The event that stimulated us to organize and fund the Yellow Ribbon Program was a Thanksgiving Day dinner in November, 2004. Since then our volunteers have hosted many soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines at lunch and dinner, not through an organized program but often spontaneously.
John Leyes, one of our most generous volunteers, named this program to welcome our troops the Warfighter Appreciation Program.
We have had the pleasure of accompanying these fine troops to baseball games, basketball games, hockey games and a wide variety of other spectator sporting events. We have had their families with us as well. They have joined us at the circus, ice skating, and other special performances in local arenas.
The most enjoyable opportunities that we have to welcome our injured service members into our community are when we get together to participate in sports. YRF Chairman Jim Bugg has invited many injured soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines to hunt and fish on his property "Poverty Point" on Maryland's eastern shore. We have hosted many golfers, at all levels, individually and in groups.
If you have tickets to a local event to donate to the troops, we would be pleased to facilitate that donation. If you want to include troops as your guests attending local sporting events or other entertainment performances, please contact us. Finally, if you want a soldier or marine to be your guest at your next golf game, duck hunt, or fishing trip, give us a call.
