Who We Help

Every day the Yellow Ribbon Fund hears of service members and their families who can use our assistance. We do our best by offering free car rentals, cab vouchers, hotel rooms, apartments, job mentoring and internship programs and free tickets to cultural and sporting events. It is the generosity of our friends and donors that makes this possible. We often hear from the families of how we have helped makes their lives easier in difficult and stressesful circumstances. The letter below is one such example:

Dear Yellow Ribbon Fund:

I just wanted to take a minute and say Thank You for everything you have done for our family. We are going through the most difficult times of our lives and there is no way that we would be able to make it without your help. The Yellow Ribbon car that we use has kept our family together and made it possible for John to get to all his doctors appointments and our daughter Brittany back and forth to school. This means more than you can ever know.

John's injuries are very serious … and you have managed to give him some peace of mind by taking care of our transportation needs. I hope you are able to continue doing the wonderful things your organization does for ALL the families that are going through difficult times right now due to their sacrifice for the country that they love. People like you are what makes the sacrifices worth while.

Thank you from the bottoms our our hearts.

Sincerely,

SSG John, Mollie, Brittany & Xander Borders

Meet Command Sergeant Major Brent Jurgersen, U.S. Army, one of the finest leaders in the Army today. Since the story that you can read here, Brent has been promoted to Sergeant Major and selected as a Command Sergeant Major. He has been retained on active duty and he and his wife Karin, another inspiration for us, stay in contact with many of us.

“If it wasn’t for the car you rented for us we’d have no way to buy food for our four kids. Eating on the hospital base is difficult, and expensive. The car has also helped us keep four very active kids from going crazy because we are all cooped up in one room at Walter Reed. It has been the number one thing that has really helped us.”
- Sunshine Jeane, wife of Staff Sergeant James Jeane

“The Marine Liaison Office told us about the Yellow Ribbon Fund . . . We are now at Walter Reed, where it’s very stressful, with all the meetings, doctors’ appointments, clinics, etc. If it wasn’t for your help we would have no transportation to get off the hospital grounds. Last week we went down to see the Washington Monument and saw some of the other monuments – it was so very nice to get out of here.”
- Theresa Hahn, mother of Cpl. Christopher Hahn

“The two-bedroom apartment that the Yellow Ribbon Fund gave us a place where our children have the chance to be real kids, where we can be a family with regular meals and where our children can go to a local school. It also gives me and my husband some privacy that wasn’t available in the one room that we all shared at Walter Reed. You have helped us in ways you’ll never know and we will be eternally grateful.”
- Ginger Potts, wife of Sgt. Nathan Potts and mother of Brock, 9 and Brooke, 7.
